Marine Insurance originally developed to cover cargo traveling by sea or by river. Over the years these coverages have evolved to include both Ocean Marine and Inland Marine. Inland Marine, broadly speaking, covers property traveling over land.
The kinds of risks which are eligible for either Ocean or Inland Marine Insurance are:
- Domestic Shipments
- Instrumentalities of Transportation or Communication
- Personal Property Floater Risks
- Commercial Property Floater Risks
Imports and exports are covered by Ocean Marine insurance. The personal property floater risk category is provided by Personal Inland Marine policies. Domestic Shipments, Instrumentalities of Transportation or Communication, and Commercial Property Floaters are eligible for Commercial Inland Marine coverages.
